The Colours Board through SASCOC is the statutory body that in terms of the Act has the power to award National Colours and confer honours and awards on individuals in recognition of their contribution to sport in South Africa. Protea (National) Colours is made on the recommendation of Archery South Africa.

The sport of archery was introduced to South Africa centuries ago, and formalized in the 1950's with the formation of the national association of archery. Since then, the South African National Archery Association (SANAA) has held over 50 national championships and participated in numerous international events and the Olympics.
A number of our athletes received Springbok Colours for their participation in the sport, and in a post-aprtheid South Africa, Protea (National) Colours. The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee is the statutory body that in terms of the Act has the power to award National Colours and confer honours and awards on individuals in recognition of their contribution to sport in South Africa.
