David Wallace, the current chairperson of the National Federation Judges Commission has been awarded the honour of FITA Judge Emeritus. He is the first recipient of this award on the African Continent, and one of a handful of FITA Judge Emeritus in the world. |
Two South African Archery Judges have been awarded the honour of being appointed as FITA Judge Emeritus by the International Archery Federation.
David Wallace and Konrad won Warmelo were presented their awards in recognition for their contribution to the sport over the past two decades.
David, a retired corporate executive was first introduced to the sport in the 1960’s and after qualifying as a National Judge in 1994, was accredited as an international judge in 1995, officiating at the archery world championships in Jakarta in the same year. Since then he has played the role of the director of shooting for a number of international tournaments and world championships, including judging at the Sydney Olympics. He holds a number of positions in the archery world, including that of chairperson of the South African National Archery Association Judges Commission.
Professor Konrad von Warmelo, who is currently the president of the Continental Federation qualified as a coach in 1975 and a national judge in 1977. In 1995 he qualified as an international judge; and since then has officiated in numerous countries in this role. He has contributed towards many books on the sport and is considered a world expert in his field. Professor von Warmelo who has officiated at the Olympics, has also played the role of coach to South African’s who have qualified and participated in the Olympics.
