Pointy Ambitions : Pupils at Bryanston High School learn a thing or two about archery
Keba Mothogae reports: In a bid to find future Olympians, SANAA has begin a campaign to increase awareness of the sport. Representatives of SANAA made an appearance at Bryanston high school to give pupils a taste of what the sport entails with demonstrations and practice. "Archery is not a very visible sport", said SANAA's Leanda Hendricks. "We are aiming at introducing it to the mainstream participants and audience, hopefully finding potential archers who can represent South Africa at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil". Hendricks, the countries archery representative at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, said the sport was not expensive initially as those keen to take part could join a club where the instruments were provided. "Obviously the more one progresses the more they have to get their own material and rely on sponsorship. Archery will be enjoyed by those who are not into team sport as it is highly individualistic and requires complete dedication. Most importantly, it is not that difficult to master," added Hendricks.
