The South African National Archery Association (SANAA) has released it's long term development program which is designed to transform the sport of archery and unleash the full sporting potential by providing a road map for those interested in the sport through a structured process of training for both the coach and individual.
By working through the Long Term Development Program (LTDP), it creates a system that enables the identification and development of all South Africans. The LTDP is suitable for all, including the youth, para-archers, women, schools and rural communities.
The program which is available in booklet format at the SANAA Shop, follows on from the Give-it-a-Go development program and offers seven levels of training and evaluation. Designed in conjunction with World Archery, the program covers both indoor and outdoor archery and takes the novice from the very basics to tournament level and prepared the archer for selection for the Gold Squad.
The principal behind the LTDP and using the Feathers & Arrows program is that by qualifying for a Feather or Arrow award, you are then qualified to teach one level lower than the qualification currently held. This process is aimed to increase the coaches capacity at club level.
SANAA now offers a complete pathway and long term development program.
The Long Term Development Program is a system of learning archery the proper way. It is divided into seven sections, starting off with the very basics. Each section, which can take as little as a week; or as long as a few months, has an assessment program on know-how and technical ability, which if passed, allows the student to go onto the next section. Each section is rewarded with the International Federation pin, recognizing the achievement. There are levels for 12 years old and under; and 13 years old over. The program is designed to cater for all ages The booklet covers all the programs, including notes for the coaches and references to the World Archery Federation Level 1 Coaches Manual.
The LTDP can be used in almost any environment, from the school learner, through to clubs and even advanced archers. The program, designed by World Archery and a number of experts in the field is the most comprehensive method of coaching archery at beginner and intermediate level and is the official development program of the national association.
SANAA offers multiple levels of development, from the Give-it-a-Go program designed as an introduction to the sport, through to the Feathers & Arrows program which is recognised by World Archery and which consists of seven levels, each with their own evaluation and World Archery Award.
