At the Claudette Shiers FITA Star Tournament held on Sunday 5 July 2009, Septimus Celliers shot 1407 points in the Compound Men category. This makes him a member of the very exclusive FITA International 1400 Club and the second South African Archer to break the 1400 barrier. He also set a new world record at 30m. Seppie now holds the African Continent record for the highest score shot in a FITA Tournament.
Barely a year after shooting his first 1400 at the Claudette Shiers FITA Star Tournament in July 2009, Septimus Celliers once again shattered all Continental and National records and shot a 1418, just one point short of the world record. Shooting under strict FITA International Conditions, in a tournament recognised by the International Archery Federation, it means that out of the 144 arrows shot at distances ranging from 90-30m, only 22 arrows were not a dead-centre "10". This is a remarkable achievement and puts Seppie in the top three archers in the world who have shot this score. In addition, at 50m he shot a score of 358, equalling the world record. Seppie who is a member of the very exclusive FITA International 1400 Club set the new records at the Claudette Shiers FITA Star Tournament in Durban on Saturday 10 July.
Seppie Cilliers joins Hoyt teammate and World Record Holder Peter Elzinga as the only other person ever to shoot a 1418 score in sanctioned FITA STAR competition. Seppie posted the huge 1418 FITA score in the Claudette Shiers Championship STAR FITA competition in Durban, South Africa this past weekend. Seppie’s choice of Hoyt bows is the Vantage Elite, equipped with Spiral-X cams. It’s the same bow he used to set his current FITA World Record of 360/33X at 30 meters. Seppie also tied Peter’s 50M World Record with his 358. Peter and Seppie are the only shooters ever to post an official 1418, and Peter still holds the FITA World Record of 1419. Seppie shot 90M 349, 70M 351, 50M 358 and 30M 360.
